Beginner at guitar, amp settings, places to go?

I'm a beginniner at playing the guitar as you can see and well I really would like to get better. I'm teaching myself and so far I know some chords on the guitar, like the basics. I want to start learning Metal songs, heavy metal. I have a fender squier strat. My amp is a frontman 15g. I was hopeing that you could tell me some amp settings that would go good with what im trying to play. Maybe some places off the internet would be nice too that can teach me the basics on the guitar for metal songs and stuff. Much appretiated.
