Eyesight question, real answer appreciated.?

recently, when i read a book or play on my handheld console for maybe 30 mins, and i look at something five or more metres away, it ends up all blurry. I know i need to get gles, but what confuses me is that it comes and goes. isn't short-sightedness meant to be permanent?
