Advice for dog with hip dysplasia?

My inlaws just had a 11/2 year old shepard put down because of it. Couldn't even support her own weight. It will get worse for sure. How quick will depend on the individual dog. Always best to make sure hips are clear when getting a dog of either of those breeds. Both well known for it along with others.
